30-Day Song Challenge – Day 5

I’m behind already, by three days. I think that’s forgivable though considering I moved house at the weekend and currently my only interwebz connection is by tethering my Blackberry through my laptop. Oh yeah and I only get two bars of GPRS signal here, not even 3G. My current connection speed is 115kbps, also it’s a bit like having two 56kbps modems hooked up, old skool!

Any way, today’s challenge (well three days ago’s challenge) was easy. Many songs remind me of people, but this track only reminds me of one person, and perhaps one summer and one holiday in particular.

A Song That Reminds You of Someone

2008 was a year of massive ups and downs for me. One of the ups was a holiday with, amongst others, one of my best friends in the world, Gemma. She’s mad as a fish and I love her dearly. Oddly enough, during the course of the holiday, I don’t think we actually heard this song, regardless, we sang it a lot. Mainly under the influence of copious amounts of Eastern European beer and wine. The song in question is “Dreadlock Holiday” by 10cc. Gemma will not even try and deny it’s pretty much her favourite band ever. I know her favourite song is “I’m Not in Love” for example.

10cc are a hilariously titled band; The disputed claim (disputed by half the band and confirmed by the other half) is that the name “10cc” represents a volume, slightly more than the average amount of semen ejaculated by a gentleman. Thus illustrating their manliness and prowess with the ladies. Whether it’s true or not, it’s an amazing story!

As regards the song though, it’s ridiculous and it was released after the original line-up had split by the Gouldman/Stewart half of the band. Gouldman and Stewart’s worked was always the more pop/commercially oriented stuff, as you can probably tell. It was written about an incident Stewart experienced while on holiday in Barbados with Moody Blues member Justin Hayward.

Any way, enough waffle, “Dreadlock Holiday” by 10cc, enjoy it, it’s amazing fun:
